Carazo Arquitectura is a San José practice founded in 2005, with its office on Avenida 8 in the city centre and a team led by architect Rodrigo Carazo. It reports more than 330 projects and design proposals across housing, hospitality, institutional, workplace, mixed-use and masterplanning work, in Costa Rica and abroad. Recent built houses include Casa Calma in Nosara and Casa Anahata in Escazú.
An approach to architecture.
The studio treats each project as research into how culture, climate, technology and nature can produce new building models instead of repeating established types. Biophilic strategies such as interior gardens, filtered light and cross-ventilation recur in its houses.
Profile notes
An editorial profile compiled from the studio’s public website. This listing does not imply that the studio has claimed the profile or endorsed the directory.
A 605 m² house in Playa Guiones, Nosara, completed in 2023 on a lot between two creeks where the mature trees were kept. Two private volumes flank a central garden under a single roof, with exposed concrete, black steel, timber soffits and cross-ventilation in place of mechanical cooling.
A 905 m² hillside house in San Rafael de Escazú, completed in 2025 and organized around a central courtyard that brings light, air and vegetation inside. The program steps with the slope: parking and services below, the social level with a bridge-like terrace in the middle, and bedrooms above facing the Central Valley or the courtyard.
