The practice
VIDA is a masterplanning, landscape architecture and design studio with offices in Escazú and Cape Town. Its work covers hospitality, residential communities, agritourism and rural planning, homes and retreats, and nature-based amenities such as trails, bridges and water features. Costa Rican projects include hotels and lodges in Guanacaste, Santa Teresa, Arenal, Monteverde, Manuel Antonio and the Osa Peninsula.
An approach to architecture.
The studio works with existing site conditions and natural systems, and in hotel projects it also advises on room types, amenity programs and phasing alongside the design.

A 240-hectare property in the tropical dry forest of Bagaces, where VIDA provided the masterplan and full landscape architecture. The revised masterplan reorganized the guest experience and operations, with a suspension bridge and trails leading to lookouts and thermal pools along a canyon where two rivers meet.
An 8-hectare hotel site in Arenal where VIDA worked with Estudio C2 Arquitectura and Luxury Frontiers on the masterplan and landscape. The team revised circulation and arrival, created terraced thermal pools and restored 6 hectares of former farmland as forest, including a sloth sanctuary.
